The purpose of the Underwriter is to underwrite loans in support of Modification initiatives around HMP as well as any future based programs within the organization. The Incumbent will underwrite loans to comply with current standards as mandated by Treasury, Agency, and Investor guidelines, as well as internal risk standards of the Firm.

Responsibilities:
* Examine overall loan documentation to ensure compliance, accuracy and completeness for the various MOD programs.
* Review Income, Documentation, Credit Reports, Applications and LTV as needed to meet various underwriting guidelines for MOD and other programs.
* Understand and manage all underwriting activities to the requirements of Treasury, Agency and Private Investor guidelines.
* Be able to discuss loan declines due to credit, compliance, income, fraud, valuation or other factors with management as needed.
* Maintain productivity levels as determined and required by management.
* Establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments, including front-end and closing areas to ensure quality product and process.
* Provide work direction and training to more junior staff.
* Adjust work process to accommodate changes in underwriting guidelines or guidance as determined by Treasury, Agency, Investor or the Firm
* Detect fraud “red flags”.

* Complete projects as they are assigned and pertain to the company.

Qualifications:
Education:
* College Degree preferred but may accept equivalent work experience and mortgage underwriting experience.
Work Experience:
* 3-5 years prior underwriting experience with thorough knowledge of underwriting principles and methods, including familiarity with Agency and other Investor guidelines.
* 3 or more years prior experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in mortgage origination or servicing, with emphasis on underwriting.
