This position is at grade 17.

AEGON’s long-term care division, Transamerica Life Insurance Company, is located in Bedford, TX (DFW Metroplex). Our products provide insurance coverage for confinements in a nursing home or assisted living facility, or for professional and non-professional care received in the home or community usually due to a prolonged illness or disability.
Our long-term care team relies on responsive contributions from accountants, actuaries, attorneys, information technology specialists, customer service specialists, claims specialists, and compliance/regulatory specialists.
Responsibilities
GENERAL SUMMARY:
An individual with several years of experience who assesses long term care insurance risks through the evaluation of medical, cognitive and lifestyle factors in a timely and consistent manner to assure the acceptance of sound risks resulting in corporate profit. This is a Home Office (not remote) position.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review and interpret Telephone Interview/Cognitive Telephone Assessment results
Quickly but carefully read, analyze and interpret medical case histories, laboratory data, examination scores and observations and properly document findings
Assess risk for LTC using lifestyle, medical and cognitive information while processing a minimum of 75 cases weekly
Handle calls from agents about underwriting decisions, requirements, and delays in processing or procedures
Read and understand the long term care insurance policy and concepts such as ADL’s, IADL’s, rate structure, couples benefits/discount, etc. on new generation products as developed
Determine need for medical records, special examinations or reports, or additional information in evaluating risk
Prepare correspondence to applicants, doctors, agents, etc
Special projects or duties as assigned by management
Evaluate and present files for case referral
Record proper codes for final action
Follow current underwriting procedures for action on replacements
Update the computer screens as needed
Qualifications
Knowledge, skills and abilities normally required for competent performance in the job.
File management skills
Friendly telephone manner
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing
Attention to detail
Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently
Working knowledge of PC/computer
Keyboard by touch
Excellent organization skills
Knowledge of medical terminology helpful
Ability to process a minimum of 2.2 cases per hour required
Must support and comply with Company policies and procedures, including the practices set forth in the Company’s Core Values, Business Principles and Rules of Conduct
Typical educational background and experience required for competent performance in this job.
LOMA/AHIP courses preferred
High School diploma or equivalent
AND
Three years of LTC underwriting experience OR
Bachelor’s Degree with three years of health or life underwriting experience OR
Five years of health or life underwriting experience.
Equipment/Physical Demands/Environment:
Normal office environment. Personal computer usage up to 100% of the time.
