Position Underwriter
Location IL, Chicago
Description
The Workers Compensation Underwriter is responsible for growth and profit of assigned agents within a regional territory. The RU’s objectives include new and renewal production (on Accounts with $10,000 Package premium or greater), underwriting and processing along with effective communication with the assigned Agencies.
Principal Job Accountabilities
Agency Management
Review and discuss appropriate target classes, underwriting philosophies, trends and other appropriate information.
Communicate with the assigned Agency Plant during new business and the renewal underwriting process.
As appropriate, discuss information regarding the underwriting analysis, underwriting reports and other underwriting criteria applicable to underwriting acceptability.
Discuss and attain appropriate pricing.
Follow through appropriately with agency to gain new or renewal order for issuance.
Appropriate Field Travel will occur to enhance agency communications and relationship.
Underwriting
Selects appropriate new business account prospects for quotation-follows declination procedures on others.
Initiates and follows through all new business prep.
Logs submissions including declines
Orders necessary reports on new and renewal business (Accounts >$10,000)
GDM
Loss Control
Obtains appropriate rate and protection grade information (renewals will be prepped by Account Technicians)
MVRs.
Refers to Regional Mgmt. or HO Mgmt. as applicable via established Authorities.
Completes new/renewal quote based on the underwriting analysis and agency specifications
Follows through with Agency for order and issues per quote.
Documents underwriting and pricing thought process through proper Archive/Imaging and update of the Underwriting Workbook.
Leads Large Account Review Program on any applicable accounts.
Customer Service
Provides assistance on any customer service type issue.
Corrects any errors on new or renewals etc.
Coordinate resolution of customer service issues.
Respond to referral items that are over the authority of the Account Technicians.
Act as liaison with Audit or Accounting.
Profitability
Follows established corporate underwriting guidelines with appropriate documentation.
Prices accounts based on profitability objectives for territory.
Skills
Must be able to navigate and enter information in both a windows based and DOS environment.
Must be proficient in Word, Excel and Access database.
Must be familiar with internet business transactions and demonstrate the ability to navigate various state and vendor sites to procure information related to establishing rate and accurately determining premium.
Must become proficient in the use of AmTrust systems such as ANA, premium issuance and other systems necessary to support transactions related to processing business.
