This position analyzes data to assess risk and determine appropriate benefits and rates through collaborative contact with others. The position is responsible for evaluating plan exceptions, reviewing rating materials for accuracy, and researching and documenting information to support underwriting decisions. In addition to overall product knowledge, the voluntary focus requires the candidate to acquire knowledge of voluntary enrollment & administration and supporting processes.
Responsibilities

Applies underwriting and risk selection techniques to determine the acceptability of new and renewal insurance risks for groups with less than 500 employees.

Responds to inquiries regarding underwriting decisions and processes, interpretation of policy forms and coverage and premium levels.

Negotiates with and works collaboratively with sales personnel.
*
Uses clear guidelines, an underwriting manual, and established authority levels.
*
Makes independent decision within guidelines and procedures.
*
Works under direct supervision.
* Stay informed on product changes through State Filings and possibly through other compliance related channels and take action if necessary as it relates to the underwriting function.
Qualifications
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree or 3+ years of related experience.
* 2-3 years of insurance industry experience.
* Knowledge of company and voluntary product and operations preferred.
* Mathematical aptitude.
* Experience with company computer systems and applications, specifically Solar rate calculations and Excel.
